D&D blog challenge missed days.

MONSTER (ABBERATION)
Some of the stranger more grotesque creatures in D&D are very nightmare fuelish.
One of my favorites is the gelatinous cube.
It's a big cube of jello death fun.
It's a gooey picker upper it's not exactly evil but can be malicious. It all depends I look at it and think it's a passive monster unless you get caught up in it or strike it.
Also it's odd shape and almost huge size compared to most ooze monsters too make it unique in this department.

MONSTER(IMMORTAL/OUTSIDER)

Let's see. Immortal? hmmm.
Let's go with hmmmm.. Orcus. I'm bored I'll talk about that guy.
So Orcus is basically a Devil in hell. Well maybe. He's classified like that. But looks more like as his name implies a classic pig nosed gygaxian Orc.  Also Grummish looks more like the modern Tolkien orc/goblin as seen in the Deities and demigod books.
I like him because he's just a purely evil and chaotic monster. He's doesn't need a reason and also he likes to pull evil schemes by dropping his scepter into the realms every now and then.( see magical artifacts/relic AD&D DMG)
MONSTER (ELEMENTAL/PLANT)

GOD OF THUNDER AND wait wrong thing.

Well thunder related.
Storm elemental are cool.
Basically well wind elemental. I like the idea of a sentient angry storm hurling thunder bolts tearing shit up. Also making things just more annoying is the fact that it hurls shit up and can easily knock things over depending on where fought.

In general elementals should not be messed with.

I'm sorry for being away for so long, but I did not have access to my pc often to post anything. I will write up something tomorrow and finish up the Ravenloft adventure to it's current point.
So I'll finish up the missing 30 day things as well.
Thanks.

15 & 16 A LATE DOUBLE FEATURE

15
FAVORITE MONSTER (UNDEAD)
I do not have much experience with Liches as of yet. So I'm a little biased here. I've only seen the liches like our man from TOMB OF HORRORS old farts decicrated who sit around and don't do much.
Or one that is battle ready will rip you a new rectum such as Sauron. It's funny when I think of Sauron I think of well a giant eye. Never a Lich. I've started reading Fellowship by the way finally! Though I honestly like both!
Moving on. Vampires since I've been running Ravenloft Lord Strahd is an awesome foe! Their manipulative abilities and illusionary spells are very interesting and they are great for adventures involving mystery or even as exceptionally challenging foes.

A honorary mention is Skeletons. Skelebros are awesome, but are more or less canon fodder unless you beef them up.

16
ANIMAL OR VERMIN Favorite monster!
You know whats Cool Bears.
You know what else is cool? Owls

OWLBEARS!!!!  Are cool and will rip your head off too. With a giant knashing beak and claws. It's an odd but amazing chimera of a critter. Avian and mammalian features made into a mesh of destructive power.

One day I will have an army of Owl Bears. All with names and rank.

RAVENLOFT KETCHUP PART 2

We last left our adventurers outside the church of Barovia.

The party decides to go to the local shop.
They are greeted by a odd man named Bildrath. Jakothia asks for cloves of garlic to wear and buys them for a price. Also Alehandro finds some banded armor and trades it for his necklace.

The party leaves the shop and heads off toward the castle. About a half way toward the fork in the road the party encounters 3 Large Wolfs/Wargs and fends them off without much issue.

They continue on into the night and as the morning comes they encounter the fork. Sir Jakothia say's left, Alehandro and the dwarf say right.

We go right. Halfway down the trail we find a camp of gypsies. They clap and cheer at us and tell us to come and dance. Madam Eva would like to see you!

Jakothia decides to go inside Evas cart. Alehandro stays right outside to listen.
Ellock and the two soldiers stay outside with the festivities.

A room draped with cloth in the middle a table.  Madam Eva a old estranged krone laughs and cackles and tells Jakothia that fortune and destiny has lead him here.

I ask Jakothia to roll some dice.
Madam Eva starts to shuffle some cards.

She points to the Cards in order.

A 10 of Spades.
"This card is a symbol of great power. It tells of a powerful force for good and protection against the forces of darkness. This is in a place of dizzying heights that all loathe to travel. The road winds ever upwards and the rocks themselves live here. The spade is a dark shadow of evil cast over that place. You fight under it's influence here."

A king of Diamonds.

"This cards tells of history. Knowledge of the ancient may help you understand your foe. A kings throne is the place to find this. The Diamond blesses your skill here, but bodes poorly for your protection."
A 7 of Hearts.

This is the object of your search! Ah! I see darkness and evil behind this card! It is a powerful man whose enemy is the light, and whose powers are beyond mortality. You may find this amid the ruins of a place of supplication. There is a very good influence here, if you are there the powers of good will aid you."
             The 5 of clubs.

"This card is good for you. It is a card of power and strength, the victors card. It tells of a weapon of light, a weapon with a vengeance. You should seek for a carefully hidden place of great worldly wealth. I see a blazing fire protecting the place. The club sustains your strength here, but holds you from your victory, taking more time then otherwise would."

Madam Eva goes on

"And here is the root card. Out of Darkness and Chaos, this card find the reason and foundation for darkness and chaos. This card shows the purpose of all things. It is the key to life and death else beyond.
             A 3 of clubs.

Not yet, but soon, one who appears to be your friend will become your enemy.
Now go begone and may fortune be in your favor."

Alehandro listens and keeps note of what Eva said.

The party leaves the camp and heads towards a separate bridge across towards Castle Ravenloft.
They come across a intersection at it a large coach and two black horses. As they approach it's doors swing open.

Jakothia searches it and sits inside. Alehandro steps in with the two men-at-arms. Ellock tries to reign the horses to no avail. He goes up to one and looks at it. It stares at him and petrifies him.

Alehandro grabs him by the britches and tosses Ellock into the carriage and the horses head off toward CASTLE RAVENLOFT

RAVENLOFT KETCHUP PART 1

OH GOD WHERE HAVE I BEEN!
So to start let's get the first 3rd out of the way this is the town section.

Last we left the party of Sir Jakothia the Paladin, Ellock the Dwarven Thief and Alehandro the half-elf Ranger. They had Received a letter from a estranged man. The letter  that concerned Barovia's Burgomeister and his daughters health.

They decided to go to Barovia and help! They pack up their things and head to their quarters, as they do two men at arms they had saved earlier come up to them and say they will help, but they need weapons.

So Sir Jakothia and Ellock decide to pitch in and hand them some shields they found, as well as buying them Plate mail, helmets, and Some Battle Axes to Carry.

Before the leave they ask the Casttelan about Barovia. He tells them. "No one ever goes in, and no one ever comes out." They ask for more information, and he tells them that no one has ever returned from Barovia.

They gather up their things and head to Barovia.

The trek is long, but they make it to the Barovian Forest path.

The party is going down the dark Barovian road. The party soon notices a gate in front of them. with two stone statues, both decapitated. As they Draw near the Gate swings open and then shuts soon after with a rusty clang.

As they head down the road, Alehandro and Jakothia notice a body and near the roadside.
It's rotting with decay. Jakothia goes to inspect it and notices a parchment in it's hand.

The parchment is a letter, Fairly old, somewhat aged. Of a similar note to a before letter yet far older.
Speaking of the burgomeisters daughter and being bitten by a vampyr. As well as the need for help.

The party makes way towards the town located in Barovia it seems mainly deserted. The sound of crying is heard through the town.

The first thing Jakothia decides to do is ask around town. He knocks on a door. No answer.
He says "I kick it open". He rolls a 18 and breaks the door off it's hinges. Inside they find a woman and her husband in the corner with looks of fear. Jakothia's presence somewhat calms them, but they looked perturbed.

"What do you want?" the man says, " I hear of a vampire problem?"
"Shhh we do not talk of that."
"Where is this vampire?"  The villager points to a castle through the window.

"Now go leave my home!"  Ellock fixes the door the best he can and they leave toward the center of the town.

The town is dark and the sound of weeping is still there. They party decides to head toward the closest light source the Blood on/of the vine Taven. As the enter four men sit at a table near the entrance and drink. The Barkeep seems to be compulsively cleaning glasses.

Alehandro looks about and notices a man in the corner hooded and drinking alone. He informs the party of the man. Jakothia buys a drink and hands it to the man at the table.

I:"What do you want?" J: I hear that there is an issue of a Vampire in this land."
I:"SSHHh keep down, what concern of it does it have with you"  J: Well we found these letters and.."
I:"Let me see that. As I thought."  J: Is there anything we can do to help the letters explain about a girl"
I:"If you concern yourself do you even know her name?" J:" Ireena kolyana isn't it?"
Ismark: "I am Ismark Second son of the late burgomeister. Come with me"

The party heads towards a mansion with creaky gates and dark looming shadows.

They enter the old house and Ismark tells them that the letter that was sent to them was not from the hands of his father and that the man on the road must of been him. He points out that they were relentlessly attacked by wolves till his older brother died.

Ismark tried his best to preserve his body, since the dead do no rest in Barovia.

He leads them to a chamber upstairs where Ireena is and explains his and her Condition. That Count Strahd the once ruler of this land did this to her and she has yet to turn. Jakothia senses evil and can tell she is mostly good, but inside her lurks a dark threat untapped.

They discuss thier issue and tell them that Strahd resides in Castle Ravenloft.
Jakothia asks about where he can find some books in the town or any information and Ismark tells him of the church.

They head toward the Church and Speak to the Priest there he hands them an old book on the history of the land. He explains that Barovia was part of a larger kingdom, but soon the old king died. Barovia was ruled by Lord Strahd and soon the residing Lands warred for control. Barovia survived. The book hasn't detailed more. Though of recent history the Priest goes on.

After the War Strahd stopped showing himself around the towns of Barovia. The main city in which this town is. Is not far more decrepit and dead. One night a Man was seen said to be the Lordship himself. Screams were heard and a girl with bite marks was found in an alley. Some say that the last person to see Lord Strahd was that girl. That Strahd had been turned into an otherworldy Vampyr the legends say.

The Priest says that that's about what he can tell him other then the wolf attacks.
As the party leaves dusk sets in and they see from the graveyard Ghosts facing away from them and staring at castle Ravenloft.

See part 2 and 3 for a continuation soon!
Did you know there is a REAL Castle Ravenloft! Sadly unless these pictures are old it is out of shape and needs to be restored. It would be a great place for larpers and renfairs that could be state owned or part of a historical reservation association.

Day 14 D&D Blog Challenge

DAY 14
Favorite NPC
Well As I've said I haven't Had too much experience. Yet today I was able to introduce Count Strahd.
He's a cool Villain and I played up the whole accent and cape thing. He's a powerful and formidable foe.
I can't say much more. My friends old villain was a lowly merchant named Bertoli, who had insidious plans and became a near god amongst men until the party faced off with him. Quiet funny stuff to have an Italian merchant become a muscle bound god with a curly mustache.

Day 13 of 30

Day 13
Favorite trap/puzzle
Due to my lack of experience as a DM I feel this one is sort of hard. Beyond a few small traps in the KATB I haven't done much. Now video game wise. I can tell you something.

I would have to say puzzle reminiscent to Legend of Zelda puzzles would be pretty cool to use or encounter. They're all about switches and doors and keep you on your toes for a new thing to open each time. Wish I could say more.
