The best playable race in AD&D in my opinion are gnomes. They're small but are great to mess around with. They don't take anything seriously and are great at building insane machines. Also They're great vs large monsters. They have a nack for magic too.
The person who plays a gnome is usually a,wizard, thief, bard, or mage. The best thing about Gnomes are their names and jokes! Gullroot snagglemud,etc. Yeah Gnomes are lots of fun.
